¿Qué son los verbos regulares?

Los verbos regulares son los más simples de conjugar ya que su ortografía en simple past o past participle es igual que en presente agregando una «d» o «ed» en el final.

Por ejemplo:

Si el verbo termina en una consonante + «y», cambiamos la «y» por «i» y agregamos «ed».

Por ejemplo:

Si el verbo termina en «e», simplemente agregamos una «d».

Por ejemplo:

 

Aquí hay algunos ejemplos de verbos regulares:

  • «Yesterday Jack studiedall day.»
  • «Raul has acceptedthe job offer.»
  • «Have you finishedyet?»
  • «We really likedthe film we watched last night.»

¿Qué son los verbos irregulares?

Los irregular verbs son aquellos que no siguen ninguna regla a la hora de formar el pasado o el participio. Esto significa que a la hora de aprender su gramática podemos confundirnos con más facilidad.

Este tipo de verbos cambian de tiempo verbal siguiendo sus propias reglas. Aprenderse todas estas puede parecer abrumador al principio, pero no te preocupes puedes dominarlas fácilmente con práctica. Miremos más en detalle las particularidades de estos verbos.

Existen alrededor de 200 verbos irregulares. Empezaremos por dividir a estos en 4 grupos distintos:

  1. Verbos con la misma forma base, past simple y past participle.
  2. Verbos que tienen el mismo past simple y past participle.
  3. Verbos con la misma forma base y past participle.
  4. Verbos con distinta forma base, past simple y past participle.

 

Una buena forma de aprender este tipo de verbos es dividiéndolos en estos grupos ya que así es más fácil memorizarlos. Aquí tienes una lista de los verbos irregulares más comunes en los distintos grupos:

Por ejemplo:

  • “Our car cost a lot of money but it’s always breaking down”
  • “My parents have letme stay out late tonight”
  • “They puton their jackets because it was very cold”

Por ejemplo:

  • They hadlunch at a Thai restaurant on Monday
  • “Have you heardthe news about the train strike?”
  • “Tim has sentan email to all the suppliers”

Por ejemplo:

  • “He cameback home at 4 a.m. on saturday”
  • “Suzi has becomethe Managing Director”
  • “The dog raninto the garden after Lee opened the door”

Por ejemplo:

  • “The kids atea lot of cakes at the party”
  • “They droveto the airport and left their car there”
  • “Has she takenher tickets yet?”

Becky was visiting Aunt Agatha at her house at the beach. It was a beautiful summer day. Becky had built a giant sand castle that morning. Aunt Agatha took pictures of the castle to send to Becky’s parents. It was a great big sand castle. Later that morning, Becky and Aunt Agatha went swimming in the ocean. It was fun to jump with the waves. Then, they went in the house and ate sandwiches and strawberries for lunch.

Becky wanted to play on the beach that afternoon. Aunt Agatha told her it was too hot to go outside without a hat on. Becky didn’t have a hat.
